Mr. G. Eugene Wood

Mr. G. Eugene Wood, age 94 of Woolwine, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Richmond. He was born in Franklin County on December 19, 1922 to the late Soloman Sylvanus “Syl” Wood and Lillie Nolen Wood. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by three sisters, Flossie Richardson, Elsie Griffith and Ilene Thomas; two brothers, Roy and Clifford Wood. Mr. Wood served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations as a Security Guard.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife of 67 years, Crystal W. Wood of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Doug Niemi of Jackson, Wyoming, Darlene and Clayton Clevey of Richmond; four grandchildren, Chad Niemi, Cheryl Schaefer and husband, Mike, Rachel Clevey and Jordan Clevey; and a great-grandchild, Heath Schaefer.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Woolwine United Methodist Church with Pastor Sandy Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Woolwine Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 122, Woolwine, Virginia 24185 or to Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 138, Woolwine, Virginia 24185.
