Mr. Gilbert Lee Humphries age 83 of Mt. Airy, NC passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Golden Living Center. He was born April 25, 1931 in Surry County to the late Crawford Lee and Lillie Mae Tickle Humphries. Mr. Humphries served his country in the U.S. Army and retired as a stone cutter from the N.C. Granite Corporation after 37 years of service. He was a wonderful loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Left to cherish his memories are a daughter, Kim Humphries of Mt. Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Laticia Humphries of Pilot Mountain, and Tony and Jane Humphries of Mt. Airy. Eight grandchildren, Whitney, Ashley, and Bethany Humphries; Brooke Johnson and husband, Jimmie; Amber Humphries, Jacob Humphries; Samantha Donathan and Olivia Donathan. Two great grandchildren, Aubree and Maddox. He was also a wonderful grandfather to many foster children. Mr. Humphries is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Clorine and Jack Bass; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Charles "Louie" and Shirley Humphries of Pilot Mountain, and Rhonda Humphries of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Humphries was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Jean Felts Humphries, a grandchild, Taylor Humphries, and a brother, Jerry Humphries. There will be no formal service or visitation at the funeral home. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Northern Surry Hospital, Mountain Valley Hospice, and Golden Living Center Surry for the exceptional care provided during this time.
