Mr. Gilbert "Gib" Nixon, age 84, of Dobson, NC passed away on Monday morning May 21, 2012 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, in Dobson, NC. He was born in Surry County to the late Drewery Scott Nixon and the late Ethel Cockerham Nixon on October 11, 1927. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Velna "Whitey" Davis Nixon; three sisters Jan Freeman, Ruby Jessup, Velna Haynes; three brothers Roby Nixon, Buford Nixon, Frank Nixon; one grandson Rodney Nixon. Mr. Nixon was a retired Supervisor from the Town of Dobson Water Department after thirty years of service, graduated from Mtn. Park High School in 1945, and was a member of Salem Baptist Church. Surviving are a devoted daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Jerry Utt of Dobson; two sons and daughters-in-law Terry and Callie Nixon of Dobson, Ted and Janice Nixon of Jonesville; seven grandchildren; Jeffrey Nixon, Sherry Bowman, Jared Nixon, Christie Lewellyn, Pam Gregory, Angie Shore, Jody Utt; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister Ann Llewellyn of Wheeling, WVa; one sister-in-law Marie Nixon of Hamptonville. Funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday May 24, 2012 in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, with burial to follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens in Mt. Airy. The service will be conducted by speakers Ray Ross and Bob Comer. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Steven Hux and staff; Moody-Davis Funeral Home and staff; the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care; Flannery Heath; sitters JoAnn Rogers, Linda Thompson, Crystal Potts and Bruce Gammons; the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home and staff.
