Mr. Henry Otis Martin

Mr. Henry Otis Martin, age 92 of Stuart passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Patrick County on January 1, 1921 to the late Thomas and Fannie Vernon Martin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Wayne "Ronnie" Martin; five sisters, Eunice Smith, Ola Williams, Katie Doss, Rosa Griffin and Annie Sue Doss; and one brother, Frank Martin. He attended Nettle Ridge United Methodist Church, and had been a farmer and sawmiller. He was a wonderful husband, the best daddy that three children could ever ask for, and a good grandpa and great-grandpa who loved his grandchildren dearly. He also loved his many friends.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorene Griffin Martin of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, James F. "Jimmy" and Tracey Martin of Stuart; one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Richard Dickerson of Salem; five grandchildren, Lisa Sholes and husband, Mike, Kasey Knight and husband, Josh, Lindsey Martin, Leslie Martin and Michael Overby; one great-grandson, Skyler Wood; one sister, Frances Martin of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Martin will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Mark Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in the Nettle Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home. The family would like to thank Dr. Nicholas Kipreos and his staff, Mountain Valley Hospice and Home Healthcare for all their kindness and generosity during their loved one's illness.
