Mr. Howard Clayton Melton

Mr. Howard Clayton Melton, 89, of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Grayson County, VA on October 6, 1924 to the late Arther G. and Clare Bell Tate Melton. Mr. Melton was a retired Stone Mason. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Evelyn Frost Melton of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Larry Smith of Mt. Airy, Freida and Charles Akers of Iron Station; five grandchildren and spouses, Bernice and Michael Johnson, Larry "Lee" Smith, James and Mitzi Smith, Susan and Billy McRorie, Richard and Rhonda Akers; thirteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Clinton Melton of Cana, VA; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Melton was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Clinton Burchem. A graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Laurel Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. David Turner officiating.
