Mr. Hoy Brewster Wood

Hoy Wood, 76, peacefully passed away on April 12, 2015 at Novant Health Forsyth Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born on October 1, 1938 in Patrick Springs, VA to the late Oscar and Myrtie Fulcher Wood.
Hoy grew up in Patrick Springs, VA and graduated from Stuart High School in 1957 where he met the love of his life, Doris Wilson. With deeply shared love, Hoy and Doris eloped and married in 1956 and through his employment at JP Stevens for 41 years, they committed their lives to family and friends.
Hoy was a man of wit, kind-heartedness, and gentle nature, enjoying his time spent participating in the sporting pursuits of his sons, and sharing his joy of outdoor activities, camping, the family cabin, and spoiling his granddaughters whenever he had the chance.
Hoy is survived by his son, Ron Wood, daughter-in-law, Stephanie Wood, and granddaughter Hannah Wood, all of Villanova, PA; granddaughter Alexandra Wood of Richmond, VA; granddaughter Morgan Wood studying at Virginia Tech; brother Marion (Barbara) Wood of Stuart, VA; sisters Demris (Lester) Holt of Martinsville, VA and Violet (Randolph) Elgin, of Patrick Springs, VA; sisters-in-law, Emily Wood of Martinsville, VA, and Charlotte Wood of Patrick Springs, VA; and other relatives. The family also gives special thanks to Juanita Harbour for her enduring care and love of Hoy.
Hoy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Wilson Wood; his son, Bruce Wood; his grandson, Travis Wood; his parents, Oscar and Myrtie Fulcher Wood; brothers Glenn Wood, Donald (Sue) Wood, Aaron Wood; sisters Arlene (Harrell) Smith, and Doris Holt.
A funeral service will be held at Providence United Methodist Church in Patrick Springs at 12:00PM on Tuesday April 14, 2015 with Pastor Keith Vernon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held at Providence Methodist Church in Patrick Springs at 11:00AM and then the family will receive guests after the funeral service in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Providence United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1021 Providence Drive, Patrick Springs, VA, 24133.
