Mr. Jack Doby

Mr. Jack Doby, age 86, of Dobson, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born in Surry County on October 4, 1927 to the late Charles Edgar and Etta Badgett Doby. Mr. Doby was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a dedicated member of New Home Church of Christ, and a veteran of the United States Army having served our country during WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Jessie Matthews, Josie Atkins, Edna Corder, and Grace Culler; by five brothers Alonza Doby, Curvie Doby, George Doby, Loyd Doby and Garland Doby. Survivors include his loving wife of sixty six years, Freeda Collins Doby, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and James Draughn of Dobson; and a son, Gary Stephen Doby, of the home; two sisters-in-law Bertie Eldridge of Mount Airy and Winnie Lou Marion of Winston-Salem; a brother-in-law, Floyd Culler of Dobson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; several great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday at New Home Church of Christ by Brother Tim Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Moody-Davis Funeral Home, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Home Church of Christ Cemetery Fund, c/o James Draughn, 4064 Simpson Mill Road Dobson, NC 27017, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving and compassionate care.
