Mr. Jack Maynard Dowell

Mr. Jack Maynard Dowell age 82 of Mt. Airy, NC passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at Golden Living Nursing Center in Mt. Airy. He was born December 6, 1931 in Surry County to the late Ambrose Lafayette and Lessie Deatherage Dowell. He was co-owner of A.L. Dowell and Sons and was owner of Virginia 500, and worked for Jim Dowell Produce and Snappy Lunch. Mr. Dowell was a member of Salem Baptist Church where he was in the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class. Surviving are four sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy Dowell Adams and Al of Greensboro, Opal Dowell Marion of Winston-Salem, Thelma Lillian Dowell of Mt. Airy and Carolyne Churchill of Williamsburg, VA, two brothers and a sister-in-law, A.L. Dowell of Mt. Airy and Jimmy and Carol Dowell of Lowgap. several nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dowell was preceded in death by sisters, Betty Dowell Neese, Edith Dowell Joyce and Patricia Dowell Terrell and brothers, Charles Dowell, Roscoe Dowell, Harry Dowell, Leo Dowell and Byron Dowell. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Salem Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Dr. Bobby Lewis.
