Mr. Jack Curtis Scott, 88 of Ararat, VA passed away at Blue Ridge Nursing Home Monday, February 17, 2014. He was born in Harlan, KY on September 20, 1925 to the late William and Allie Kares Scott. Mr. Scott bravely served in the U.S. Army from December 21, 1943 until March 14, 1946. He retired from Vero Beach Lincoln Mercury and was a member of The Fellowship Church in Ararat. He loved life and relished the time he had with his family and friends. Mr. Scott was an avid gardener, growing beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. He was also known for his wood working talents and the exquisite furniture he made. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean Scott; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Roland Harris; a son, Donald C. Scott of Jacksonville, FL; a step-daughter, Patricia Hiatt; step-son, Rodney Hiatt and his wife, Barbara; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Scott was preceded in death his first wife, Mavis Purkey Scott; a sister, Geneva Scott and a brother, Dewey Scott. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at The Fellowship Church in Ararat, VA with Rev. Monte Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 12:00 pm until the time of the service. Interment will be at Powell Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to The Fellowship Church, PO Box 80, Ararat, VA. 24053.
