Mr. James Odell "Jim" Bartley

Mr. James Odell "Jim" Bartley age 93 of 5382 West Pine St., Mt. Airy, NC husband of Mrs. Helen Lowe Bartley passed away Friday morning, December 12, 2014 at his home. He was born August 15, 1921 in Surry County, to the late Fred and Augusta Todd Bartley. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II and retired from Valleydale Meat Packers in Salem, VA. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Helen Lowe Bartley of the home, and a brother, Tony Bartley of Falls Church, VA, special niece and husband, Linda and Franklin Gravely of Mt. Airy, a special great niece, Penny Creed of Gastonia, a special nephew, Dean Gravely of Salisbury and a cousin, Maxine Todd Galyean of Salisbury. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bartley was preceded in death by four sisters, Virginia Bartley and Marvine Sauls and two infant sisters and a brother, Jack Bartley and a special mother and father-in-law, Talmadge and Lottie Lowe. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, December 14, 2014 at New Life Baptist church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Gray Kirkman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 Mt. Airy and VFW Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends 2-3 pm Sunday at New Life Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers. memorials may be made to New Life Baptist c/o Scottie Issacs, 3080 Haystack Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. Helen would like to thank her family and special care givers, Shelby Graybeal, Faye Cain, and Karrie Yarbrough, the Bayada Nurses and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the wonderful care they gave Jim. .
