Mr. James "Todd" Handy

James Talmadge "Todd" Handy, Jr., age 40, of Woolwine passed from this life Tuesday night, April 1, 2014 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Beloved son of Jimmy and Regena Haden Handy of Woolwine, he is also survived by brother and sister-in-law, Josh and Stephannie Handy, and nephew, Riley James Handy, all of Roanoke; aunt and uncle, Linda and Erman Bryant of Stuart; step-grandfather, Reo Stephens of Woolwine; and several cousins. He was predeceased by grandparents, James Alvin and Lou Ella Hubbard Handy and Ernest Taylor Haden and Wavie Lyon Haden Stephens, and uncles, Roger and Rudy Haden.
Born in Stuart on October 28, 1973, Todd was a 1991 graduate of Patrick County High School, and attended Patrick Henry Community College and Bluefield College. He was a resident of Roanoke for almost 15 years until diagnosis of his illness in September 2012. His employment history included the United Way of Roanoke Valley and the Salem Red Sox.
Todd had a boundless zest for and enjoyment of life. He was a sweet, fun loving man who always lit up the room when he walked in. A huge sports fan, especially of UVA athletics, he took especial delight in the recent successes of its basketball team. He loved music and took pleasure in attending Bluegrass events with his father and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of his parents. Burial will follow in the Jacks Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Woolwine.
