Mr. James Walter "Jimmy" Hopkins

Mr. James Walter "Jimmy" Hopkins, age 85 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Pioneer Community Hospital. He was born in Patrick County on September 14, 1929 to the late Early R. Hopkins and Beulah Wright Hopkins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Cassell Hopkins; his second wife, Virginia Reynolds Hopkins; and one brother, Early R. Hopkins, Jr. He was a member of Bouldin Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as a Trustee. He served in the United States Army during the Korean war, and had retired as the Assistant Public Works Director with the City of Martinsville after 35 years of service.

Mr. Hopkins is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Buck Caldwell of Charlotte, North Carolina; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randolph and Shari Hopkins of Martinsville, John and Carrie Hopkins of Blacksburg, Steve Hopkins of Woodbridge; one step-daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Brad Scott of Corbett, Oregon; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Dorothy Hayden of Portland, Oregon; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Nancy and Fred Smart, Betsy Hughes, all of Stuart; and one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Harold and Betty Hopkins of Charlottesville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial in follow in Bouldin Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
