Mr. James Ervin “Jim” Marion age 82 of Mount Airy entered the portals of Heaven on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living after many years of declining health. He was born in Surry County on March 4, 1933 to the late Grady Gaston and Electa Ball Marion and was a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. Mr. Marion was retired from Wellington-Puritan Mills after many years of dedicated service. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Effie Atkins Marion, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Maurice Bryant, of Raleigh and Dawn and Brian Goodwin, of Wake Forest; a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Mandy Marion, of Cary; five beloved grandchildren, Hannah LaCava, Ian Goodwin, Peyton Goodwin, J.D. Marion and Michael Marion; two step-grandchildren, Chris Bryant and Brandon and wife Ann Goodwin; a sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Dub Golding, of Lowgap; a brother, Ronnie and wife Sandra Marion of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Marion was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth “Pete” Moser and a brother, Jackie Ray Marion. Funeral services will be held at 12 pm on Monday October 5, 2015 at Salem Baptist Church by the Rev. Jay Worsley and Dr. Darrell Tate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10AM until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Baptist Church c/o Linda Hardy, 430 Rockford Road Dobson, NC, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Twelve Oaks Assisted Living and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving and compassionate care.
