Mr. James Carl Stevens

Mr. James Carl Stevens, age 91 of Ararat, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy, North Carolina. He was born in Patrick County, Virginia on May 13, 1924 to the late Lewis and Lou Willard Stevens. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Irene Stevens; his second wife, Marie Bowman Stevens; a step-son, Dean Hawks; a granddaughter, Jennifer Vass; an infant sister; and two brothers, William and Irvin Stevens. He was a member of Dobyns Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Mr. Stevens is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lucille and Michael Vass of Hillsville, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Leon and Jane Stevens of Stuart, Clyde Stevens of Stuart; two step-daughters, Maxine Bowman and husband, Phillip of Ararat and Earlene Prokopec of Lexington, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Anita S. Scott and husband, Wayne, Anthony Stevens and wife, Paula; and three great-grandchildren, Cody Stevens, Seth Scott, and Chris Mason.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Donnie Conner and Elder Tim McGrady officiating. Burial will follow in the Church of Christ Cemetery in Dry Pond. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
