Mr. John S. Clanton

Mr. John S. Clanton, age 77 of Critz, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Henry County on February 11, 1935 to the late Julius Henry and Lucy Bell Reynolds Clanton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clanton was preceded in death by a grandson, Roger L. Clanton, Jr.; three brothers, George, Marshall and Eugene Clanton; three sisters, Marie Reynolds, Beatrice Penn and Maxine Clanton. He was a faithful member of Mount Nebo Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as an usher until his health declined, and had retired from Bassett Superior Lines with 45 years of service.
Mr. Clanton is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances Reynolds Clanton of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Niecy Clanton of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Roger and Renee Clanton of Critz, James and Jennifer Clanton of Spartanburg, South Carolina; five daughters, Deborah and Winston Reynolds of Ararat, Christine and Tommy Tatum of Critz, Janet and Richard Penn of Patrick Springs, Vicki and Derek Giles of Critz, and Mary Smith of Mount Airy, North Carolina; two sisters, Eunice Cobb of Patrick Springs and Pauline Clanton of Fieldale; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Clanton will be held Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Overseer Sammy Hagwood officiating. Burial will be held in the Mount Nebo Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. A wake will be held Saturday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
