Mr. Johnny Hoover Williams, age 85 of Mt. Airy, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015, at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Williams was born in Surry County on February 22, 1930 to Willie Austin and Mattie Leftwich Williams. After proudly serving our country in the United States Army, Mr. Williams became a well-known steel guitar player. Surviving are daughters, Gail Easter and Cheryl Brannock; a step daughter, Deborah York; a step son, Donnie York and wife Betty; grandchildren, Shane Brannock and wife Tammy and Joshua Smith; great grandchildren, Kameran Baldwin, Brendan Brannock, Gavin Brannock, Tristan Brannock, Rylee Haynes and Garret Haynes; sisters, Bertie Seal, Shirley Williams and Myrtle Boger; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Faye Williams; several nieces and nephews; a very dear and special friend, Norma Haynes and his four legged buddies, Cupcake and Punkin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Henshaw and brothers, Clayton Williams and Bobby Williams. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 22, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Tony Williams and Ted Williams. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
