Mr. Junior Dillard White, age 90 of Dobson passed away April 21, 2012 surrounded by his family at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born October 30, 1921 to the late John Dillard and Pearlie Beamer White. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. Junior was a simple man who loved nature and outdoors. Farming, fishing, planting and harvesting were his greatest joys. He walked where ever he went and loved to go barefoot. He will be greatly missed by all and remembered for his heart of gold. A true example of a Christian who always had time for everyone. He was a member of Central View Baptist Church and a honored WWII veteran and served in the United States Army from July 1942 until October 1945 for three years and three months. He served in the 45th Infantry Division and later was reassigned to the 71st infantry Division. He engaged in several major battles in Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Austria. As hostilities ceased, he was shipped home and discharged on October 14, 1945 with an Honorable Discharge and the following medals, one Bronze Star, five Battle Stars, Army Good Conduct Medal and Lapel Pin, Europe-Africa Campaign WWII medal, WWII Occupation Medal, WWII Victory Medal, WWII American Defense Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Sharp Shooter Badge. In the pages of the nation's history, Junior is recorded as a brave soldier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nada White Collins and Carolee White Cook; three brothers, Millard, Herman and Billy Sam White and one step-great-grandchild, Alexander Robert Aarons. Survived by his wife, Jewel Freeman White, the love of his life for sixty-six years; one son and wife, Robert F. "Bob" and Irene White of Dobson and one daughter, and husband, Patty Sue and Ted Harper of Lewisville; three grandchildren, Dana Wetterauer of Vienna, Austria, Kevin Calhoun of Winston-Salem and Brad Calhoun of Winston-Salem; two step-grandchildren Christine Parker of Mount Airy and Angela Aarons of Fernandina Beach, Florida; seven great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Andy and Flora White of Mount Airy; one sister and her husband, Reid and Reba Adams of Mount Airy. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Central View Baptist Church by Rev. Travis Chipman and Rev. Marty Nixon with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Monday from 6 until 8 pm where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road or to Central View Baptist Church 1088 White Dirt Road Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home; their church family of Central View Baptist Church and to the countless friends and neighbors for their loving, compassionate care and for every act of kindness shown.
