Mr. Lazarus Smith, Jr

Mr. Lazarus Smith, Jr., age 71, of Ararat, VA passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Baptist Hospital. Mr. Smith was born in Patrick County on June 18, 1943 to Lazarus and Mamie Chandler Smith. He enjoyed working at Smith Trucking and was a devoted member of the Ararat Ruritan Club. Surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy Jackson, Bettie and Bernie Epperson and Larry Sawyers; a brother, William "Crab" Smith and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by sisters, Clara Smith, Virginia S. Utt, Helen S. Sawyers, and Mary Jo S. Cain; brothers-in-law, Marshall Chilton, Cliff Utt and Jim Jackson and a special nephew David Sawyers. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Darren Slate. Burial will follow in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Larry Sawyers, 525 Willis Gap Rd.
