Mr. Lee Thomas "Tom" Shelton, age 89, of Westfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Shelton was born in Stokes County on April 27, 1926 to the late Everett and Phoebe Simmons Shelton. He was veteran of the United States Military having served in the Navy, the Army and retired from the United States Air Force. Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Sylvia Inman Cave Shelton of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynnette and Tim Badgett, of Mount Airy, Tonya and Mike Hulme, of Dobson; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Dena Cave, of Elkin; four beloved grandchildren, Teara Draughon, Jadia Royal, Preston Cave and Nora Cave; one great-grandchild, Braelen Draughon and very special friends, Sheena Galloway and Ertine Simmons. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by his first wife, Billie Tucker Shelton and a brother, Fitzhugh Shelton and two grandsons, Joseph Badgett and Paul Cave. Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Saturday July18, 2015 at Francisco Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Tracy Collins and the Rev. Ricky Rogers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road Dobson, NC 27017; or the American Cancer Society,6000 Fairview Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. It was also Mr. Shelton's desire that a tree be planted in his honor anywhere they desire. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Woltz Hospice Home and omwMountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and the many friends and neighbors for their every act of kindness.
