Mr. Lester Hooker Foley, age 82 of Stuart passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on August 27, 1929 to the late Rosevelt "Rose" and Irene Massey Foley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Foley was preceded in death by a brother, Loyd Foley. He served in the United States Army during the Korean war, attended the Buffalo Ridge Church of God, and had been a sawmiller/logger his whole life. He was a true outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Mr. Foley is survived by his longtime companion, Juanita Hodges Foley of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Donald Lewis of Bassett, Janet and Jerry Edwards of Floyd and Melissa and Nolen Kendrick of Woolwine; one son and daughter-in-law, Lane and Valerie Foley of Stuart; Elva Sigmon Foley of Bassett, mother of his children; eight grandchildren, Darrell Lewis, Mark Lewis, Leah Young, D. J. Martin, Dustin Foley, Landon Foley, Whitney Foley and Lindsey Bower; four great-grandchildren, Maranda Lancaster, Tanner Young, Peyton Lewis and Isabella Martin; one step-daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Wesley Adams of Bassett; three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Kay Foley of Martinsville, Chris and Mallory Foley of Figsboro and Clayton and Angie Foley of Snow Creek; seven step-grandchildren, Amanda Hale, Curtis Foley, Jr., Christopher Foley, Jr., Kayla Foley, Jenna Adams, Heather Foley and Katelyn Foley; four step-great-grandchildren, Hunter Hale, Sara Hale, Meredith Biggs and Keegan Foley; two brothers, James Foley of Bassett and Claude "Jim" Foley of Stuart; and seven sisters, Madge Bryant of Rocky Mount, Christine Elgin of Stuart, Crystal Scott of Bassett, Margaret Burnette of Martinsville, Erma Jean Puckett of Stuart, Bonnie Stanfield of Collinsville and Violet Spraker of Rocky Mount.
Funeral services for Mr. Foley will be held Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Dale Bailey and Pastor Sandy Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Ross Harbour United Methodist Church Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, memorials may be made to Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O.
