Mr. Luther Bertrand Stanley, Jr

Mr. Luther Bertrand Stanley, Jr., age 71 of Stuart, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 at Sovah Health Martinsville. He was born in Rockingham County, North Carolina on August 19, 1946 to the late Luther Bertrand Stanley, Sr. and Iris Sheila Wood Stanley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Elwood Stanley. He had retired with 20 years of service in the United States Air Force and served with distinction during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed coaching recreation league baseball and football, and watching his sons and grandchildren play competitive sports. He was also a beloved father figure and mentor to the mountain boys.
Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife, Sornklin P. Stanley, of the home; sons, Luther Bertrand Stanley, III and Laura Rebling, of Richmond, Virginia; Edward Scott Stanley of Stuart, Virginia; Christopher William Stanley and wife, Karen, of Northfield Center, Ohio; Jonathan Andrew Stanley and wife, Jeannie, of Bassett, Virginia; Shawn Patrick Stanley and wife, Leanne, of Eatonton, Georgia; Heath Ian Derrick and wife, Jennifer, of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Matthew Hunter and Evan Tyler Stanley of Stuart, Virginia; Iris Stanley of Columbus, Ohio; Moira and Gehrig Stanley of Northfield Center, Ohio; Emalee Jones of Bassett, Virginia; Dylan Jones, Cillian, Mali, and Maggie Stanley and Anna Appleby of Eatonton, Georgia; Mason, Mara, and Ethan Derrick of Marietta, Georgia; sisters, Margaret Barkley of Meadows of Dan, Virginia; Catherine Vaughn and husband, Mike, of Bassett, Virginia; a niece, Pam Royall, and a nephew, Michael Vaughn.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with military rites conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
