Mr. Marion Chester "Pete" Slate, Jr

Mr. Marion Chester "Pete" Slate, Jr., age 59 of Stuart, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy, North Carolina. He was born in San Diego, California on September 27, 1954 to the late Marion Chester "Pete" Slate, Sr. and Patricia Shelp Slate. In addition to his parents, Mr. Slate was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert Garland. He retired with 30 years of service with the Town of Stuart Water/Waste Water Treatment Plant where he was a superintendent.
Mr. Slate is survived by his wife Susan Clinard Slate of the home; one son, James Slate and his fiancé, Erin Haskins of Rocky Mount; a daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Eddie Gregory of Claudville; one brother and sister-in-law, Philip A. and Melanie Slate of Claudville; one sister, Shelly J. Garland of Houston, Texas; and a niece and nephews.
A memorial service for Mr. Slate will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor J. R. Vipperman officiating. Burial will follow in the Slate Family Cemetery.
