Mr. Marvin Ray Boyd

Marvin Ray Boyd, 80, of Woolwine, Virginia, passed away on March 4 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 10, 1934, in Woolwine, Virginia, to the late Nelice (Neal) Boyd and Beadie Howell Boyd. In addition to his parents, be was also preceded in death by three brothers: Clyde Leo Boyd, George Everett Boyd, and James Nelice Boyd.
Ray graduated from Woolwine High School in 1952 and served two years in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where he trained as a medical corpsman. He retired in 1978 from the District of Columbia Fire Department with the rank of Deputy Fire Chief after 22 years of service.
He is survived by two sisters; Vada Lee Boyd of Radford, Virginia, and Peggy Boyd Scott of Fairlawn, Virginia; Nieces and nephews; Scott Adkins of Claytor Lake, Virginia, Karen Adkins of Radford, Virginia, Rodney Boyd of Bassett, Virginia, Gerald Boyd of Woolwine, Virginia, Elaine Lundy and Arnold Boyd, both of Asheboro, North Carolina, Robert Boyd, Robin Davis, and Kenneth Boyd, all of Randleman, North Carolina; special friends; Nellie Thompson of Stuart, Virginia, and Michael Brown of Spencer, Virginia.
The family is especially grateful to Michael Brown for his loyal friendship and the invaluable assistance he has provided to Ray in recent years and for the assistance of the Smith River Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 2:00pm at Moody Funeral Services in Stuart, Virginia, with the Reverend Edward Hartman officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Boyd Family Cemetery, located at 825 Eanes Mountain Road in Woolwine, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department, 9912 Woolwine Highway, Woolwine, VA 24185, or to the Smith River Volunteer Rescue Squad, 9962 Woolwine Highway, Woolwine, VA 24185.
