Mr. Oscar Marvin Hutchens

Mr. Oscar Marvin Hutchens, age 87, of Dobson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Center with his loving family by his bedside. He was born in Surry County on March 13, 1927 to the late Charlie O. and Roxie S. Hutchens. He was a retired from the Pilot Mountain Police Department, where he served as the Chief of Police with thirty years of dedicated service, and a former Clerk of Court for Surry County. Mr. Hutchens was a dedicated member of New Home Church of Christ and lived his life in service to others. Survivors include his devoted sons, Garry and wife Lorie Hutchens of Reidsville and Brent Hutchens of Dobson; four beloved grandchildren, Jamie DeWitt, Chad Hutchens, Carrie Hutchens and Matthew Hutchens; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gurtha Lou Hutchens; a son Larry Hutchens; a great granddaughter, Kennedy DeWitt, a sister, Nani Byrd and two brothers, Curtis and Fred Hutchens. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at New Home Church of Christ by Brother Tim Smith with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 pm at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where his body will remain until time to be carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made in his honor to New Home Church of Christ, c/o James Draughn 4064 Simpson Mill Road Dobson, NC 27017.
