Mr. Ray Gordon Hagwood, Sr., age 79, passed away Monday, August 31, 2015. He was born May 14, 1936 to Henry Kelly and Lillian Brown Hagwood. He was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Iris Phillips Hagwood of the the home, three sons Ray (Bud) Hagwood, Jr. and wife, Kimberly, Henry (Sonny) Hagwood and wife Renee, Tim Hagwood, and daughter Ann Hagwood Slate and husband Shane. Ray has three wonderful granddaughters, Sarah Hagwood Day and husband Grant, Abigail Hagwood and Haley Hagwood and a great-grandson Mason Day. Ray is also survived by three sisters Ellen Poe, Julia Byrd and husband Harmon, and Linda Hagwood and two brothers James Hagwood and H.B. Hagwood and wife Judy. Ray is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him death were both parents, brother Derle Hagwood, two sisters June Smith, and Patricia Hagwood.
Ray was a 1958 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy, and owned and operated Ray's Pharmacy in Dobson for twenty-five years. He was a life-long fan of all things Tarheel.
Ray was a dedicated supporter of the children of Surry County. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage donations to the Surry County Children's Home, PO Box 692, Dobson, NC 27017 or another children's charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday September 5, 2015 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson. Rev. Dennis Bledsoe will conduct the services. The Family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 P.M.
