RAY WARDEN ROBERSON, SR., 85, of Stuart, VA, died on January 6, 2015, at Northern Hospital of Surry County, Mount Airy, NC. of pulmonary fibrosis, a disease of the lungs. He was born August 31, 1929, in Patrick County, VA to the late John Warden Roberson and Virginia Audrey Reynolds Roberson. He was predeceased by his parents and his stepmother, Crystal Fain Roberson, son Kyle Thomas Roberson, two brothers, James Maury Roberson and Gilmer Calaway Roberson, and one half-brother, Murray Howard Roberson.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Ervin Roberson and five children and spouses, Ray Warden Roberson, Jr. and wife Catherine H. Roberson, Larry Alan Roberson and wife Karen C. Roberson, Joel Bruce Roberson and wife Traci D. Roberson, Daniel Ervin Roberson and wife Mary Joann C. Roberson, and Deborah Sue Roberson Hoback and husband David R. Hoback, all of Stuart; 10 grandchildren: Hera Roberson, Ashley Roberson, Riley Roberson, Amy Roberson, Landon Roberson, Travis Roberson, Hayley Hoback, Aaron Hoback, Daniel Bowman, and Wesley Roberson; one step-granddaughter, Casey Hudgins; one great-grandchild, Derek Camden Roberson. He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley R. Trent and Charlene R. Williams; one sister-in-law, Willodean Webb Roberson; two half-brothers and a sister-in-law, Franklin D. Roberson of Stuart, and Johnnie B. Roberson and wife Helen Williams Roberson of Stuart, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He served in the U. S. Air Force for 4 years during the Korean War, stationed in North Africa. Following his discharge from military service he drove a school bus for the Patrick County School System, and was later employed as a rural mail carrier fOr the Stuart Post Office for many years.
He was a member of Stuart Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee, and song leader for many years. He was very interested in his church, and personally made many improvements to the church building.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, with visitation beginning at 12:00 noon, and the funeral service to start at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Patrick Memorial Gardens, Stuart.
