Mr. Ray William "Bill" Sawyers

Mr. Ray William "Bill" Sawyers, 74 of Mt. Airy passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, March 18, 2014. He was born in Surry County on October 11, 1939 to the late Fred William and Mandy Ellen Tolbert Sawyers. Mr. Sawyers ran a heating and air conditioning company as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed life and spending time with his friends and family. Mr. Sawyers is survived by his devoted wife, Alice Faye Wright Sawyers; two grandchildren, Candice Sawyers Johnson and husband, Brian, and Gregory Adam Sawyers; two great-grandchildren, Bryce Landen Johnson and Breana Nicole Sawyers; a special daughter-in-law, Sandra Corns Nixon and husband, Randall; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Louise Kauffman and husband, Bill, Mary Ruth Puckett and Lela Jones; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry Sawyers and wife, Kim; many special nieces and nephews; one extraordinary nephew, Brandon Snow; a special cousin, Dallas Corder, and a special family member, Carlton Jessup. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sawyers was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Ray Sawyers and two brothers, Tommy Sawyers and Ed Atkins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy with Rev. Billy Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Blackwater United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
