Mr. Raymond C. “RC” Hawks

Mr. Raymond C. “RC” Hawks, age 80, of Mount Airy, beloved husband of the late Joye Monday Hawks, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 19, 1936 in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Garland Claude and Dinah Cagle Hawks. Mr. Hawks served in the United States Army and also in the National Guard where he served as a food service specialist . He was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church, retired from the Surry County Sheriff’s Office as a food service specialist, and also retired from Perry Manufacturing. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law; Terri Beasley of Mount Airy, Christy and Robert Potts of Dobson and Gina and Larry Brown of Yadkinville; son and special daughter in law, Patrick and Marie Hawks of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Trinton Beasley, Nicki Darnell, Zeb Potts, Maggie Murphy, Adam Brown and Casey Brown; great grandchildren, Hannah Beasley, Maddie Beasley, Kileigh Darnell and Kora Darnell; a sister Margie Ramey; and a special friend and fishing buddy, Cecil Kapps. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Opal Phillips and Nemo Peele; his brothers, Holbert Hawks, Otis Hawks and Charles Hawks. Visitation will be Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson. The funeral will be at 2 PM Monday in the Moody-Davis Chapel in Dobson with, Pastor Jonathan Barker and Sheriff Graham Atkinson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Amazing Grace Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amazing Grace Baptist Church Building Fund, 1053 Blevins Store Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family also wants to give special thanks to ICU of both Hugh Chatham Medical Center and Forsyth Medical Center.
