Mr. Robert Hayes, age 79, of Thurmond passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born is Surry County on April 24, 1935 to the late Claude and Evia Watson Hayes. Mr. Hayes was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and a dedicated member of Charity Hill Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 58 years, Flora Isaacs Hayes, of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rebecca Bray, and Audrey and Jeff Childress, all of Thurmond; his beloved grandchildren, Casey Childress, Skyler Childress; honorary grandchildren, Destiny Lyons, McKenzie Danley, Ethan Danley, Angel and Heidi; two sisters, Irene and Annie and a brother, James; his "special Buddy" Arthur Shores. His funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Charity Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Dennis Sexton, the Rev. Marvin Blackburn, the Rev. Brian Cardwell and the Rev. Terry Longworth where his body will remain to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 6 pm until. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Hayes family.
