Mr. Roy Ralph Walker, Sr., age 80, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Betty Whitaker Walker. They shared 58 years of marriage. He was born in the Stoney Fork Community of Wilkes County, the second of seven boys born to Ivory Calvin Walker and Vera Michael Walker. He was employed by Surry Telephone Membership Corporation for 32 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor. Roy always had a way of bringing a smile to anyone’s face. He is survived by his spouse, Betty Lou Walker; a daughter, Vicky Walker Kirkman and her husband, Richard; a grandson, Elliott Andrew Kirkman and his wife Jacqueline; one great-grandchild, Hunter Andrew Kirkman, who has been the pride and joy in his life for 2 years; three brothers, Wren Walker, Gerald Walker and Randy Walker; one special brother-in-law, Phil Whitaker, who was more like a blood brother to him; and one special furry friend, Herbie, who showed up 10 years ago and never left his side . In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Roy Ralph Walker, Jr.; his brothers, Gwyn Walker, Ray Walker and Verle Walker. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Sunday, February 25, 2018 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson with Reverend Wendell White officiating. Interment will follow in the Welcome Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation or viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy NC 27030.
