Mr. Ruben W. Riggs

Mr. Ruben W. Riggs, 84 of Mt. Airy passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born in Surry County on April 15, 1931 to the late Charlie Washington and Mary Lula Mitchell Riggs. Mr. Riggs bravely served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Mt. Airy Post VFW Post 2019 and a dedicated member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Mr. Riggs is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Felts Riggs of the home; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Dot Riggs, Paul Riggs all of Mt. Airy and Monroe and Judith Riggs of Statesville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Riggs was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy; brother, Fred Riggs and a half-brother, Bennie Thompson. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Bledsoe and Dr. Darrell Tate officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy, NC.
