Mr. Samuel Hughes "Sammy" Floyd, Sr

Mr. Samuel Hughes "Sammy" Floyd, Sr., age 80 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on February 18, 1934 to the late Will and Sue Clark Floyd. In addition to his parents, Mr. Floyd was preceded in death by three brothers, William "Bill" Floyd, Clark Floyd and Waller Floyd; three infant sisters and three other sisters, Henrietta Scott, Ann Eller and Naomi Wooten; two sisters-in-law, Frances Floyd and Lois Floyd; and three brothers-in-law, Winnie Scott, Murray Eller and Jimmy Wooten. He was of the Baptist faith, and had been a maintenance supervisor with the Blue Ridge Nursing Center for approximately 25 years.
Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gay Nell Hylton Floyd of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Rodney Matthews of Stuart; one son, Samuel H. Floyd, Jr. of Stuart; one granddaughter, Sierra Nicole Matthews; one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Charlotte Floyd of Collinsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Bobby Dunkley of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Mark Elkins officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home.
