Mr. Samuel Richard Wood, Sr

Mr. Samuel Richard Wood, Sr., age 90 of Spencer, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was born in Patrick County on December 12, 1922 to the late Samuel and Myrtle Geneva Shough Wood. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Richard Wood, Jr.; a brother, Douglas Wood; and a sister, Catherine Chitwood. He was a member of Stuart Primitive Baptist Church where he was a deacon, and had served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife of 65 years, Fedelia Corn Wood of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Spencer Scales and John of Martinsville; three grandchildren, Joseph, Jason and Justin Spencer; and five great-grandchildren, Emma Jennings and Joshua, Joel, Brayden and Harley Spencer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Gleason Worrell and Elder Thomas Radford officiating. Burial will follow in the Russell Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites by the Veterans Honor Guard of Martinsville/Henry County.
