Mr. Shasta Monroe Bryant, age 90 of Winston Salem, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Bryant was born in Surry County on July 12, 1924, to John Astor and Ella Freda Leftwich Bryant. He proudly served our country in the United States Army Air Force during WWII and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Bryant taught at the University of Miami and Wake Forest University where he retired as Chairman of the Spanish Department. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Jo Smith Bryant; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Masami Bryant; a step daughter, Pamela Gould; grandchildren, Eric and Claudia and a brother and sister-in-law, J.A. and Claudia Bryant. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth B. Davis and brothers, William Bryant, Larry Bryant and Wade Bryant. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Parkway United Church of Christ by Rev. Craig Schaub. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
