Mr. Thomas Joseph "T.J." Bowling

Mr. Thomas Joseph "T.J." Bowling, age 85 of Stuart, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on July 28, 1928. Mr. Bowling was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Hawks Burcham Bowling; a grandson, Jonathan Bowling; his father, Thomas Joseph Bowling, his mother, Minnie "Vic" Thomas Bowling Pendleton; his step father, John I. Pendleton; and a step brother, John Edgar Pendleton. He had served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman, had been the manager of Patrick Hardware, and had worked for Moody Funeral Home in Stuart for several years. He was a charter member of the Patrick County Jaycees and had been a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Stuart Lions Club.
Mr. Bowling is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Rita Bowling of Stuart, Brent and Cheryl Bowling of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Kim and Glenna Bowling of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Robin Bowling of Charlotte, North Carolina; a step son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Sheldon Burcham of Stuart; six grandchildren, Corey Bowling, Jamey Bowling, Dana Bowling, Christy Sutton, Ashley Nogueira and Brooke Wexler; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Bowling will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Dewayne Troutt officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Family Cemetery in Vesta. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
