Mr. Thomas Edgar Chandler, Jr. age 61 of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at Golden Living Center. Mr. Chandler was born in Surry County on April 25, 1953 to Thomas Edgar Chandler, Sr. and Helen Foalden Chandler. He proudly served our country in the United States Marines and began his career in the Pilot Mountain Police Department and worked for more than 28 years in law enforcement before retiring as Police Chief, from Erwin Police Department. Surviving are daughters and son-in-law, Monica and Mickey Chamberlain, Stacy and Adam Cardin and Misty and Jimmy Davis; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jaymee Chandler; grandchildren, Hannah Chamberlain, Ansley Cardin, Ethan Chandler, Colton Cardin, Chase Cardin and Addison Davis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Leon Hutson, Marcie and Rocky Gwyn and Missy Chandler; and brothers, Ricky Chandler and friend Linda Kirkman and Michael Chandler. In addition to his parents, Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Gwyn and a very special four legged friend, Doc Holiday. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Epworth United Methodist Church by Rev. Dennis "Bud" Cameron. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Mt. Airy Post 2019 & Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church Building Fund, 216 Holly Ave., Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
