Mr. William Brady Bates, age 78, of Elkin, NC passed away on Wednesday October 15, 2014 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by his family. He was born in Surry County on January 20, 1936 to the late John William Bates and the late Ethel Coe Bates, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother Brady Bates; two sisters Joanna Bates Hutchins and Dora Dean Bates Calhoun. Mr. Bates was retired from Bill Davidson Chevrolet and from the Surry County Bus Garage. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife Margaret Seago Bates of the home; one son and daughter-in-law William Forrest and Tammy Bates of Jonesville; one daughter and son-in-law Jamie and Richard Bucknall of Winston Salem; three grandchildren Jonathan Bates, Richard "Rich" Bucknall and Loren Bucknall. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday October 18, 2014 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Judy Davis will conduct the services. The family will receive friends at Moody Davis Funeral Home in Dobson on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. His body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson until carried to the Church to lie in state 30 Min. prior to the services. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017 or to Ebenezer United Methodist Church PO Box 988 Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff and volunteers of Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
