Mr. William "Bill" Melvin Gilbert

Mr. William “Bill” Melvin Gilbert, age 90, of Martinsville passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015 at his home. He was born on September 15, 1925 in Patrick County to the late Clee O. Gilbert and Mary Ida Handy Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Mark Gilbert and seven sisters. Bill served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from DuPont and was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Sarah Opal Martin Gilbert of the home; two daughters, Susan Eastwood and Jennifer Gesinski both of Chicago, IL; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Patricia Gilbert of Stoneville, NC; and two grandchildren, William Clee Gilbert and Cody Joe Gilbert, both of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Minister Tim Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Wayside Community Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
