Mr. William Lester "Bill" Rose

Mr. William Lester "Bill" Rose, 95, passed away Wednesday August 5, 2015 at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living. He was a native of Mt. Airy and born in Surry County, December 1, 1919, one of eleven children of the late John C, and Pearl T. Rose. He was a graduate of Franklin High School and a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. On January 6, 1942, he entered the U. S. Army Air Corps where he served until December 7, 1945. Upon discharge, he moved to California and spent his entire career with United Airlines until he retired. After retirement, he returned to Mt. Airy to live. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Billie Jean and Jim Newell of Titusville, FL; three grandsons and spouses, Bart Allen and Yaning Newell of Cummings, Ga, Todd Albert and Amy Lane Newell of Titusville, FL and Bret William and Lori Ann Newell of Jacksonville, FL; one granddaughter and spouse, Chan Doreen and Rev. Dr. Keith Turman of Ashville, NC. Also surviving are nine great grandsons, Benjamin, Joseph and Ross Turman, Austin and Max Newell, Hunter and Luke Newell, Skylar and Liam Newell and three great granddaughters, Clair Turman, Alexandria Newell, and Kylee Newell, one brother and sister-in-law, Stanley M. and Phyllis S. Rose of Mount Airy; and one sister, Nellie Ruth Golding, of Mt. Airy. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward E. Rose, Dennis Cecil Rose, John C. Rose, Jr. and Robert Starling Rose and four sisters, Virginia Catherine Harbour, Margaret Lucille Webb, Dorothy Evelyn Snow and Betty Lee White. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Keith Turman officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will follow at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd. Dobson, NC 27017.
