Mr. William Franklin Withers

William Franklin "Motor" Withers, age 74 of Fancy Gap, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the Woltz Hospice Home. He was born in Henry County, VA, grew up in Mt. Airy where he would meet his first wife, C. Kay Huffman Withers. Bill attended Eastern Carolina University. They moved to Winston-Salem where Bill worked for R.J. Reynolds Company. He later would divide his time between North Carolina, Florida and the Caribbean before returning to North Carolina to care for his elderly parents. He continued to enjoy racing both cars and motorcycles for many years, as well as traveling to spend time with friends and family. Especially close to him were his friends known as "Team Forest Hill", who's companionship and continued support sustained him throughout his life. Bill was preceded in death by his loving parents, Alexander Breckenridge (A.B.) and Janet Bell Withers; sister, Shirley Slater and brother, Robert E. Withers. He is survived by his lifelong friend Kay Withers of Mt. Gilead; son and daughter-in-law, William Franklin Withers, II and Simone Porto and their daughters, Isabella and Victoria of Miami, FL; daughter, Jennifer Withers of Mt. Airy; W. Rutledge Henderson Withers of Gainesville, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Julia Withers Henderson and husband David of Raleigh; nephews, Christopher and John Slater; niece, Margaret W. Smith and his godson, Mike Cook. There will be no formal services. Moody Funeral Home will be assisting the Withers Family. Memorials may be made to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd. Dobson, NC 27017.
