Mrs. Alma G. Burris

Mrs. Alma Anderson Gordon Burris, age 99 of Mt. Airy, while surrounded by her family, went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2014. Mrs. Burris was born in Forsyth County on March 26, 1914 to William Matt and Cora Payne Anderson. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to so many. She retired from Lynne Hosiery after over thirty years of service. Mrs. Burris was a devout Christian woman who loved her church and her church family. She was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church for over forty years where she taught Sunday school and served her Lord and church in many other capacities. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Roy Thomas of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Tammy Adams and husband Danny, Greg Butcher, Lesa Angel, Renita Tyler and husband George, Jeff Gordon, Shaun Benzel, Robert Gordon, Jr. and Amanda Gordon; eleven great grandchildren, one great-great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Alene and Lester Tilley of Mt. Airy; a brother, Chester Anderson of Rural Hall; several nieces and nephews, a special grand dog, Tuffy Rose, of course her church family and a very special care giver, Bonnie Dalton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burris was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Gordon, her second husband, James Enos Burris; sons, Howard "Stamie" Gordon and Robert "Tweed" Gordon; a great grandson, Leevi Barnard; a sister, Alice McCormick and brothers, Claude Anderson, Charlie Anderson, Joe Anderson, Raymond Anderson, Clyde Anderson and two infant brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Chris Benfield and Rev. Eddie Honeycutt. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home.
