Mrs. Arlean Gwyn Cook

Mrs. Arlean Gwyn Cook, 89 of Mt. Airy passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born in Surry County on August 11, 1922 to the late Jesse Gwyn and Gracie Haynes Allen. She retired from Spencer's Inc.after 53 years of service and was a member of Closer Walk Baptist Church. Mrs. Cook is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Ray Chaney of Basset, VA; a stepdaughter, Norma Lee Shelton and husband, Edward of Flint, MI; two step sons, Ravon Cook of Pilot Mountain and Leon Cook of Mt. Airy; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; four half sisters, Mae Easter, Julie Gwyn, Hazel Gardner all of Mt. Airy and Christine Tate of Cana, VA; a half brother, Robert Gwyn of Cana, VA; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Q. Cook; a daughter, Barbara McBride Horton; a grandchild, Jeffrey Lane Horton; her stepfather, Arthur Allen; a stepson, Rex Cook; a sister, Myrtle Peal; a half sister, Minnie Surratt; a half brother, Paul Gwyn. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin Kevin Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
