Mrs. Charlotte Ann Turner Nelson

Mrs. Charlotte Turner Nelson, age 79, of Elkin, NC, formerly of Spencer, Virginia, the wife of Billy Jefferson Nelson Sr., passed away on Friday morning September 5, 2014 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. She was born in Henry Co. VA on April 29, 1935 to the late R. Ernest Turner Sr. and the late Verda Hensley Turner in Spencer, VA. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant sister Nancy Brown Turner; a sister-in-law Violet Turner and one brother Robert Ernest Turner, Jr. Surviving are her husband Billy Jefferson Nelson Sr. of the home; one son and daughter-in-law Bishop B.J. Nelson and wife Kimberly Shockley Nelson of Elkin; two grandchildren Afton Gabrielle Nelson, and Melena Larkyn Nelson; two special sisters-in-law Martha Nelson Harris of Martinsville, VA and Hazel Nelson Patterson of Hampton, Va.; also survived by several special nephews R.E. Turner III, Barry Cole Turner, Keith Turner; and one special niece Dianne Rorror; several great nieces and great nephews; two great-great nephews; three great-great nieces. Mrs. Nelson graduated from Spencer Penn High School in 1952. She attended Perry Business School. She was employed at Centel Telephone Co. for 24 years and at Spencer Post Office for 30 years. She was active member of old Well Christian Church; she became a member at the age of 12. A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday morning in the Cemetery of Old Well Christian Church in Spencer, Virginia. Rev. Ron Hennis will conduct the graveside service. The family will receive friends at Old Well Christian Church on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of her service at 11:00 AM. There will be no formal services held at the Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Old Well Christian Church Cemetery Fund C/O Carol Ann Boundurant 150 Grand Lake Dr. Ridgeway, VA 24148. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, NC is serving the Nelson family.
