Mrs. Crystal Arlene Hughes Shelor

Mrs. Crystal Arlene Hughes Shelor, age 82, of Ridgeway, Virginia passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County. She was born in Patrick County, Virginia on September 22, 1931 to the late James Patterson Hughes and Ocie Alice Morrison Hughes. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers, James Roy Hughes, J. Edward Hughes, John Taylor Hughes, Joe G. Hughes and William Brewster Hughes and eight sisters, Mary Alice Hughes, Laura Ethel Hughes Gilbert, Mildred Evelyn Hughes Hatcher, Ruby Hazel Hughes McGirk, Minnie Velma Hughes Howard, Beadie Melba Hughes Kallam, Dorothy Marie Hughes Terry and Doris Ann Hughes. Mrs. Shelor graduated from Stuart High School in 1951. She retired as assistant manager of JoAnn Fabrics, she was of the Primitive Baptist faith and she enjoyed quilting and gardening. Arlene was a very caring and truly selfless person who was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Mrs. Shelor is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Thomas Terry Shelor of the home; her children, Joy Shelor Hart and husband, Charles of Raleigh, North Carolina, Gary Thomas Shelor and wife, Marlene of St. Stephens Church, Virginia, Jeannette Shelor Gore and husband, Al of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brenda Shelor Crawford and husband, Jesse of Ridgeway, Virginia, Terry Wayne Shelor and wife, Regina of Ridgeway, Virginia and Carol Shelor Kestin and husband, Phil of Aiken, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Chris Shelor, Jamie Shelor Brown, Charlie Hart, Joni Crawford, and Rachel Kestin; great grandchildren, Caylee Grace Hart and Robert Taylor Brown and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Shelor will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Elder Carl Terry officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and at other times at the home in Ridgeway, Virginia.
