Mrs. Doris Shore Boyce

Doris Shore Boyce died peacefully at her home in Stuart, Virginia surrounded by friends and family on January 22, 2014. She was born on January 23, 1922 to Annie Long Shore and William Eugene Shore of Winston-Salem, N.C. Her father was a successful business man and was the founder of the first modern-style car dealership in North Carolina: Motor Sales, Inc. She spent most of her life in Winston-Salem.

She graduated from Salem College and Gibbs in New York City. She married Dr. William H. Boyce in 1948 and they had a happy marriage until his death in 2012. They had four children who survive her. Lock Boyce and his wife Darlene of Stuart; Catherine and her husband Steve Baldwin of Chesapeake, Virginia; Barbara and her husband Bill Howard of Advance, North Carolina; and Fred Boyce of Swansboro, North Carolina. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was a Moravian and a faithful member of Calvary Moravian Church in Winston-Salem.

While her family was the center of her life, she was quite active in community affairs in Winston-Salem, including Meals on Wheels, the Child Study Club and the Nature-Science Center which later became Sci-Works. She moved to Stuart in 1988. In recent years, she was an ardent supporter of the Democratic Party, and was very proud of President Obama, a distant relative.

A private memorial service will be held at the home in April, and her ashes will be spread on Bull Mountain.
Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is in charge of the arrangements.
