Mrs. Doris Strickland Flowers

Mrs. Doris Strickland Flowers, age 85 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born in Wayne County, North Carolina on July 22, 1928 to the late Louis L. Strickland, Sr. and Maggie Parham Strickland. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Flowers was preceded in death by her husband, James Washington Flowers; a daughter, Patricia Flowers Kice; two brothers and four sisters. She was a member of New Life Community Fellowship Church, and was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and sister. She spent most of her married life as a military wife.
Mrs. Flowers is survived by one son, Stan Flowers and wife, Dr. Jeanne S. Flowers of Stuart; four grandchildren, Stacy Flowers Martin and husband, Scott of Stuart, Darian Flowers and wife, Lisa of Raleigh, North Carolina, Peter Kice and wife, Chelsea of Danville, and James Kice of Washington; six grandchildren, Isabella Martin, Adalai Martin, Jude Martin, Josiah Flowers, Rachel Flowers and Caleb Flowers.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Charmaine Atkins, P.O. Box 10, Claudville, Virginia 24076.
