Mrs. Dorothy Hamby Carter

Mrs. Dorothy Hamby Carter, age 90, of Elkin, NC passed away on Thursday evening February 6, 2014. She was born in Surry County on October 18, 1923 to the late Ephraim Ottis Hamby and the late Essie LouAnnie Holyfield Hamby. Dorothy was retired from Western Electric, In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Stewart Hinson Carter; a granddaughter Pamela Beaty; sister Lily Hamby; brother Fred Hamby. Surviving are her daughter Gwen Carter Washburn of Elkin; son Kenneth Stewart Carter of the home; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; brother Ralph Hamby of Boonville, brother-in-law Bennie and Irene Carter of Boones mill Va. Mrs. Carter burial will be held Sunday February 9, 2014, 2: 00 P.M. at Union Cross Baptist Church Cemetery.
