Mrs. Dorothy Hamlin Hayes

Mrs. Dorothy Hamlin Hayes, 95, of Elkin passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Central Continuing Care. She was born in Surry County on April 21, 1918 to the late Sidney and Eva Sanford Hamlin. Mrs. Hayes was employed by Washington Mills in the quality control department, and later retired as a CNA from Elkin Healthcare, where she dedicated herself to helping others. She was faithful member of Salem Fork Christian Church as long as her health permitted. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Shirley Hayes Wright Shelton and husband Mickey, of Pilot Mountain, Jerelene "Jerie " Hayes Golden Sams and husband Jesse, of Danbury, and a son Sid and wife Sally Hayes of Elkin; a daughter-in-law, Hazel Andrews Hayes of Lenoir; six beloved grandchildren, Yogi Wright, Zach Wright, Joy Golden Neal, Nicholas Golden, Cynthia Hayes McKee and Darren Hayes; twelve great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Badgett. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Adolphus Hayes; a son, Glenn Ray Hayes; two sisters Eleanor Leedy and Thelma Whitaker and two brothers, Howard and Marvin Hamlin. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Salem Fork Christian Church by Rev Tim Burton and Chaplain Stewart Roten, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 2 pm until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving and compassionate care.
