Mrs. Edith Elizabeth Mays Amburn age 84 of 441 Blevins Store Road, Mt. Airy, widow of Mr. Ross Amburn passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Golden Living Nursing Center. She was born November 10, 1929 in Surry County to the late Joe Millie and Myrtle Callaway Mays. Mrs. Amburn was retired as cafeteria manager of the Lowgap School. She was a member of Round Peak Eastern Star Chapter #377 where she held the star point of Martha for many years. She was a member of Ladonia Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and was very active in the WMU. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Cathy Amburn, Mt. Airy, a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Gordon Holder of Lowgap, a. four grandchildren and spouses, Lee Holder and Stacy of Huntersville, Joe Holder and Lana of Lowgap, Drew Holder of Palmetto, FL, and Amber Amburn Ross and Justin of Santa Monica, CA, five great grandchildren, Wesley Holder and Erin Holder of Huntersville, Luke Holder, Matthew Holder and Lyla Beth Holder all of Lowgap, a brother and sister-in-law, Ulyss Joe Mays and Dora of Pamplico, SC. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Amburn was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Mays Atkins. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Ladonia Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Tony Holder. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Eastern Star burial rites will be conducted by Round Peak Eastern Star Chapter #377. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Saturday at Moody Funeral Home where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Gideon's International , Dobson Camp, PO Box 791, Dobson, NC 27017.
