Mrs. Elizabeth Fawcett Burke passed away 6 November 2014 at Northern Surry Hospital. Mrs. Burke was born October 20, 1922 in Surry County, North Carolina to the late Mr. Thomas Garnet Fawcett and Mrs. Katie Lee Mills Fawcett. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Mr. James Marion Burke and stepson Dr. James Gillum Burke.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children and grandchildren. Daughters are Pinky Hennis Shelton and husband Denny Ray Shelton, Mrs. Kitty Hennis Seivers and husband Michael P. Seivers, Mrs. Anne Hennis Haynes and husband Ricky Haynes all of Mount Airy. Her Son Mr. Cecil F. Hennis (BUD) and wife Judy Ilene Hennis of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Stepdaughter, Mrs. Brenda Burke McGhee of Richmond, Virginia. Daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carol Morris Burke of Mount Airy.
Mrs. Burke had eight grandchildren, Ms. Katherine Elizabeth Fawcett Seivers of Charlotte, N.C., Mr. Zachary William Seivers of North Hollywood, CA, Mr. Cecil Forrest Hennis III of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mr. Ryan Perry Hennis of High Point, N.C., Dr. Emily Burke Cheshire of Denver, CO., Mrs. Julie Burke Slaby of Charlotte, N.C., Dr. Katherine Burke of Charlotte, N.C., Mr. William Palmer Wilkins, III of Richmond, VA. A very special family friend Mr. Granville Rawley. Mrs. Burke is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Airy where she served as an Elder for many years. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30pm Saturday 8th of November 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Airy with Dr. Paul Ridolfi and Robert C. Evans III officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy. The family will receive family and friends in the Koinonia Room at the church one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the Northern Surry Hospital for their many acts of kindness. We would also like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army of Mount Airy and The First Presbyterian Church of Mount Airy.
